Can I ask if anyone has experience of contacting the Crown Estates to enquire about the extent of Harbour Authority moorings in any area?

As far as I understand it, the River Beds and Foreshore owned by the Crown are administered by the Crown Estates and leased out to various Harbour Authorites and Mooring Associations in the UK. These Authorites and Associations then charge for either the right to lay a mooring or lease moorings out.

But investigation appears to show that not all of the River beds or the Foreshore is actually owned by the Crown. There are exceptions, like I understand Cornwalls River beds and Foreshore.

I am trying to obtain certain specific information from the Crown Estates about River beds and Forshore in South Devon on the River Teign and its slow going, so far.

I would like to see all these details available on the internet, for ease of access, but it seems unlikely at the moment.

Any help or suggestions most welcome.

Remember that you answer you get may not be true or even actually untrue, you will have to ask very well defined questions complete with maps and plans etc to get anywhere. Crown Estates will be well staffed and advised by the best legal brains in Britain, they won't give you the opportunity to get your foot in the door.

thank you so far with the comments, suggestions, experiences etc etc, it has helped and encouraged me to continue my quest.

broadly speaking the local Teignmouth Harbour Commision claim that they have 'all and sole' rights to River bed and Forshore of the tidal part of the River Teign below High Water mark. High Water Springs is often refered to, but Crown Estates, on their website, state Crown ownership is Mean High Water mark.

The local Council allow 'free' access to their lands above High Water mark with free (no payment required) storeage upon it. Just name and tel contact number on boat required / requested to allow contact if required by council.

there is a part of the 'forshore' that locals say it under local council control and poss awaiting development as a Marina, with free mooring upon such forshore untill the Marina development takes place.

so without further delay I will again contact Crown Estates, with a site plan and map references to ask the question, under whos control is this actuall plot of 'forshore'?

That's interesting cos I was speaking to a local resident just a week or so back and he told me that the local council did make a charge for leaving a dinghy on the foreshore and also issued a licence sticker.

However, how often they checked the parked boats is another matter.

Odd place to put a marina! I'll follow this with interest.

Why is it an odd place for a marina?

From what little i know about Teignmouth the harbour commision don't own all the mooring rights in Teignmouth as some of the cottages on back beach have rights to moor on the beach plus some of Shaldon side isn't controlled by the harbour commision
