Are you considering sailing around Britain ?

During the summer of 2007 I undertook my first major sailing adventure. Like so many weekend sailors, over a number of years, I had enjoyed club racing and several brief sailing holidays with friends, but never attempted a substantial solo expedition. Then, aged fifty plus, enacting a type of middle age rite of passage, and without significant planning or the usual preparation, I undertook a 1900 nautical mile, ninety-four day travel adventure circumnavigating Britain during the worst summer in more than two centuries.

Hoping to evoke the spirit of both Jerome K. Jerome’s Three Men in a Boat and Joshua Slocum’s Sailing Alone Around The World I wrote my narrative of the voyage, interspersed with diary observations made during visits to forty-eight towns in the British Isles. It is an observational portrait of contemporary Britain written to inspire the fifties everyman to leave the comfort of the couch and discover both themselves and their home island.

I have purchased the book and it arrived promptly.
Easy to read and enjoyable.

(Perhaps we could meet up for a beer sometime, my work is not far from yours)

I've received some kind reviews of my book - hopefully my tale will encourage some readers to set out on their own adventure..

Mr Strugess, will your book be available on the Kindle in the future? (I have suprised myself in being such a convert to the device and haven't bought a paper book since I started using it.)

Hi Mukes - I might do the Kindle thing later this year. At the moment the paperback edition looks good and the pictures, colourful..

I'm sorry to say it, but I too found the book pretty hard going and quickly abandoned it.

The 'soft' side of me sort of feels bad for the guy, but I think people should be more honest with themselves - their strengths and, in this case, weaknesses - before committing to writing an unreadable book and then expecting people to read it.

I blame the dishonest 'review' for prompting me to buy it.

+1
I don't mind a bit of negativity in a book but I couldn't figure out his reasons for doing it in the first place
Only bit of the book that made me smile was "Heather my plucky Scottish crew of TWO days, then decided to jump ship and take the bus back home" :D Well there's a shock !

The title is a little bit misleading. It gave me the impression that I was about to read some sort of celebration of our country.

Sadly, at times, the only thing which came across as 'Precious' was the author.
