Connecting Raymarine to Computer

Thank you very much for the answers!

First of all thanks for the explanations about the connections, I think that (as some of you said) it would come to cost too much to do this system.
The reason why I wanted to do this instead of buying a new chart plotter is that the radar is analog and most new ray marine MFD don't support it, so I would have to change it and it would cost me about 2000€ + to buy both the MFD and the Radar.

I will try to open the C70 by myself on Saturday and I'll let you know what I find out and decide to do.

Thanks again to every body,
Gabe

Some details of the sounder module you're using might also help with giving you some option.

Blimey. Never try and edit a post on android. (hence erroneously deleted perfectly good post above)

Let the set of fishfinders compatible with the OP's C70 Classic be X
Let the set of fishfinders for which a readily available PC display solution exists be Y
I assert that:
X⋂Y=∅

You seem to disagree. I always accept that my facts may be incorrect or my logic flawed so feel free to contradict me :-)

From your posts I perceive you disagree. I accept that I could easily be wrong but unless you're aware of at least one fishfinder compatible with the C70 classic for which there's also a PC display solution for, there's no point in the OP answering your question. Unless my logic is flawed. Which of course it could be.

Short of carrying out a load of research to find out what possible fishfinders can be fitted to a C70 classic, i wouldn't know. Therefore it would be easier if the OP said what he had, i'd only have to look one model up and see what possible solutions i could think of that might be helpful, at least i'd have tried.

I think there is a way to get everything except radar on a laptop.

Hi! Unfortunately I don't know the models and all the documentations/manuals are in the boat right now but tonight/tomorrow I'll be able to check everything and I'll post as soon as I can.

Are you talking about NMEA DBT/DBS sentences or fishfinder image data?

As far as i know, he won't be able to get fishfinder data.

It's perfectly possible to get depth, GPS and a bunch of other data, depending on the exact kit that's fitted. There will be possibilities for getting data to a laptop independent of the C70 and other possibilities of leaving the C70 in place as a slightly shaky radar display (fishfinder too if wanted) and feeding everything else to a laptop.

I currently have GPS, AIS, VHF, depth, speed, log, water temp and could fit some other stuff too, including radar (Garmin HD). I have a N2K network but can process data from 0183 and Seatalk. I don't have a MFD but i can use all of the onboard data on anything that has wifi or an ethernet connection.

It can be a pain to set stuff up with a laptop, as i found out when i did mine. I now know of some stuff that will work nicely, but only if i know what's there now. Given the age of the OP's equipment the options aren't likely to be vast.

So apparently there are USB ARCnet adapters despite it having been superseded as a computer networking protocol thirty years ago - but good luck writing a driver and display application for Raymarine's undocumented fishfinder protocol.

I did say in my last post, not the fishfinder display. I'd forgotten about that and was just thinking depth when i said "everything".

Our posts crossed in the ether :)

The radar and fishfinder are largely the point of the thread, being the two devices with proprietary connections to the plotter. Those and the actual chartplotting functionality are what the OP needs to replicate, it's pretty obvious that standard stuff like the AIS can be connected to anything and Seatalk can be easily converted to NMEA0183 and regarded likewise.

Lots of options for him to do the charting on a laptop, but none at all for the radar and fishfinder. So replacing the plotter with a computer is not an option unless he upgrades all the other expensive bits, which he quite reasonably doesn't want to do. The only two options are repairing the plotter (DIY or theservicecentre) or replacing it with another C-Series.

Hi, first of all really thanks for the answers and the help you are giving me!

When I said DSM /fish finder I actually didn't mean the video data ( never actually used it), I was meaning the death (most important) and the temperature (if possible).

In the next hours I'll give you all the models/specs.

Thanks again,
-Gabe

and the temperature (if possible)

Ahem... Yes, that is the MTW sentence which (as mentioned in my previous post) can be bridged out of the C70 from its 0183 port. If you can do that then you can surely also get it out of the seatalk too so you have no problems (and yes you can get water depth and depth below transducer as well, those sentences are also in the list I gave from the C70 manual, so it seems your requirements from the fish finder can be fulfilled). All you have to do is keep the C70 in there to talk to whatever new system you implement so you aren't scuppered by the proprietary connections.

It helps to tell the forum things like this up front- you will have observed the consequences of an information vacuum, in this case ever decreasing circles about Ethernet and video etc.

So, I have checked out and I have a DSM 300 , the VHF should be a Ray50 ( not still sure about that) and the autopilot is a p70r, haven't still been able to check out the others but tomorrow I will send some photos and all the models.

Unfortunately I can't take any photos...
I confirm that the models are all right.
I have tried to find the model of the radar but I can't figure it out.
