Congrats to the Scottish Elephant Polo Team

I see that they have won the 2004 Elephant Polo World Championship in Nepal. A week-long tournament in the Nepal's Royal Chitawan National Park, attended by crowds of up to 5,000 people.

I wonder where they practise?

Heard the Duke of Argyle being interviewed about it yesterday on BBC R4. He's the team captain. Seems there are a few good rules like it's not allowed for an elephant to sit or lie down in the goal. Obvious really when you think of the size of the goal vs the size of an elephant.

Apparently the elephants love it and will often kick the ball ahead if the rider misses it.

Any ideas for a game to keep us yotties amused & fit during the winter?

There is already a canoe version of polo - the Brits are really quite good at it - the ladies won the world championships in Japan this year and the men won the bronze having been world champions themselves for the previous four years. Oz didn't do very well and NZ even worse. Current mens champions are Netherlands. Not being football of course it never gets a mention in the press. How do I know? Son has a complete set of Bronze Silver and Gold (x2) world medals but is now retired at 32.

I think in view of the damage they do to their boats that a yotty version could be a mite expensive.

Yeah, the elephants would give the deck a right pounding.

scots do have a bit of a handicap in areas like this. just heard from son-in-law that he went to a function recently and it was unexpectedly held outdoors (in oz). we now know what is worn under the kilt - mozzie repellant!
