Dont know if it is coincidental but since installing an antivirus on both office computers I now have no network. Neither pc can find the other, all protocols are set right, drives are mapped correctly,changed cable,changed adaptors,uninstalled antivirus,reinstalled drivers. It is driving me mad I have to move desks to access Accounts. HELP !!! I HATE COMPUTERS !!! Anyone got any suggestions before I throw myself overboard (Metaphorically of course)

Well, you could argue it's working - no chance of virii now!

Did you just install AV software, or was there perhaps a firewall element too? It sounds rather as though certain ports may have been closed down. Which AV product did you install?

It was pccillin and yes it did have a firewall element.

Thoroughly agree with you, most likely a firewall or if it's Xp you will need to go into your documents and set up the system to allow shared files and folders,

My version is actually 2002. I found the exact problem listed "unable to browse other computers" done everything it said got very excited at the prospect of it working but allas twas not to be still wont find other computers. Really bugging me now.

I have the same problem on my home wireless network with Norton, and I've found a quick workaround so never bothered to fix it properly. You can try the same and see if it works

Go to icons in bottom right of screen. Right click on antivirus and firewall icons and turnoff or disable.

Go and browse other computer (if you can't it's not a firewall issue), then go back to icons and turn back on. On my system, once the link is open and active the firewall doesn't block it. Your's of course might be completely different ;(

Tried disabling firewall still cant browse. I think somewere something has been corrupted. Maybe only sollution is re installing windows ? Rather not though with my luck probably end up in more trouble than I started. I say again I B****Y hate computers.

Shouldn't need a reinstall, probably something quite minor. What operating system are you using. XP, 98?

OK, try this first. Turn off firewall on both computers. Reboot both computers. Check both firewalls still disabled. (Reason for this is some firewalls keep ports locked even after turned off)

Now try networking.

Why not try contacting pccillin support? all was well until you installed their product, they should have a support line for this type of problem,it may be product specific,which is why it is proving to be a little sod to resolve, £1.50 pm what the heck!!!!

Sounds highly unlikely that antivirus or firewall involved then.

Diagnosing network problem remotely beyond my skills I fear, as too many possible causes. Do you know how to use 'ping' to see if the two computers can actually 'see' each other? That will remove all hardware, cable and connectivity issues

Probably post is a bit late, hope you wore a lifejacket when you threw yourself overboard.
You could try re-running the network setup wizard on both computers and see if they will speak to each other. Possible that installation of software disabled this.
