Does anybody out there know what the compression pressure on a Volvo 2001 should be if it's in good condition

Similarly what should the oil pressure be.

Thanks,

Ed

When cold a Diesel engine should have not less than 400psi otherwise it will struggle to start. Don't know what the oil pressure should be but in any case this has no effect on compression pressures.

My engine manual for 2001, 2002 and 2003 models gives the compression ratio as 17.5:1 and pressure figures as 2 – 2.5 Mpa (20 – 25 kp/cm²) at starter motor speed.

Oil pressure is given for all models as follows:

Full speed and warm engine = 0.35 – 0.40 Mpa (3.5 – 4.0 kp/cm²)

Idling (775 – 825 rpm) and warm engine = 0.08 – 0.15 Mpa (0.8 – 1.5 kp/cm²)

Hope this helps!

That's great - thanks.

Can some one please confirm that Mpa is megapascal and that 1Mpa = 145PSI - I'm afraid I'm not familiar with this new fangled stuff!

The various conversion tables available on the internet all confirm the figure you quoted. A more accurate figure is 145.04psi but this is academic. Enter ‘Mpa psi conversion’ into Google for a choice of conversion tables.

I agree with you. Psi is much easier to visualise!
