compresser clutch jammed kad42

evening

my compresser is jammed throws out sparks when revving and trips out the trip switch in the black box. checked the oilit wasd ok just wondered if this could be repairable or if i need a new unit.

any advice would be great

are they fairly easy to do or should this be left to the professionals ( i knew i shouldnt of left the wife at the helm if there is a clutch to burn out she will do it )
 
I haven't had to do it . Just writing from knowledge gained .
I think it must be a fairly simple job but the belt tensioning has to be done just right . Professional fitting is presumably not too expensive if you take the boat to the fitter.

It is a relatively easy job. You will need circlip pliers and shim to an exact tolerance. It was some years ago but I seem to remember having to make up a little extraction tool. If this sound daunting at all then leave to professionals

im thinking that might be wise do they bolt off easy enough. and i can probably just bring the unit back to the uk for my mechanic to do and then perhaps take back and put it back on once he has had a play with it.

Not sure where your boat is but why not just get your local VP agent to do it. Cant be much more than 2 hours work for a professional.
Its a big lump to carry on Ryanair.
 
yeah the trouble is in ibiza there is a shortage of mechanics and just to get one to even come and look is a job in itself. much happier lugging it to the uk and have my trusted guy look at it than leave it in the hands of the volvo penta we might turn up we might not ok we will come next week. i mean in three weeks turn out sorry can you send me a e mail now and i will get soeone to reply ole it is painfull.:cool::encouragement:
 
You need good quality circlip pliers , a 10mm socket , bar, you can then prise it off.
Download a manual as you have to get the clearance correct, a pack of shims come with the clutch to set up the clearance to the main pulley, fit a new relay at the same time.
