So, who do I sue for the Seagull poo on my boat?

It makes it look awful & I have to spend ages cleaning it off every time I arrive for a cruise. Ican't sail her looking like that & I have to hang a sheet over my head so that no-one will recognise me. I want £5,000 for a new sheet & the embarassment of having to wash seagull poop off all the time.



My boat is only 38 years old & now looks at least 20. - wish I did!


Edit: and I forgot, my underwater lights fused & gave me a shock, should I sue the manufacturer or the installer? Then the illuminated sign fell on my wife's foot so she now needs 3 more pairs of Jimmy Choo's for her to get over the trauma.

You need to set up CCTV to catch the stinker you upset and who empties a bread bag over your decks from his flybridge to attract the seagulls as soon as you leave
then you can attach post it notes to his boat like jfm suggests

Thanks for the responses, guys, tears are running down my thighs as I type (it's a beggar this incontinence).

So that's what it is, some sod throwing butty wrappers on me bote. So it's all Subway's fault!

Thanks for the tip about the lottery. I saw someone do it last month & they didn't win either. There must be something wrong.

Post-it notes are a great idea, but what colour should they be? Yellow seems a bit feeble, how about RED for a sending off? Can you get them seagull poop coloured? Should I write rude or threatening verses on them or leave them blank to increase the anxiety factor? Can I stick 'em to a brick first to simplify delivery?

I have been reading the small print of my insurance docs & it seems that I am not entitled to claim for the glasses that I now have to wear as a consequence. I have also decided to remove the batteries from my hearing aid as fast moving & noisy craft frighten me, should I wear blinkers too?

Thanks for the good replies, i expected the sarcy ones, I have not involved my insurance co, there is no need, as I type this I have just got back from boat, found he hit the swim platform on the way to the back corner so I've had to take out the black lines with spit and polish. worked out I've done 6 journeys to the boat, so thats 336 miles.

I'm back at 8am in morning to finish helping the guy who is repairing and back in at 2 pm.

In reply to the person who said about using boats, boat went back in water march, the last 7 weekends we have been at home one weekend, all others have been away on boat, Easter I took a 3 day trip to cowes and came back 8 days later, no I'm not slow we stayed away, had to buy a load of clothes though but as it was so nice we went for the first time to Portland. Boat in tomorrow then we are off again on fri for 4 nights.

Tatty-Bye SP, sorry to gate crash - well, no, not really, just 'avin a larf. Damage to your boat is sad, but it ain't really the end of the world. No people were hurt were they? That's the important bit, isn't it? Boats are always fixable or replaceable.

That's pretty patronising. SolentPhill never said it was the end of the world. He never said damage to his boat was anywhere near as important as injury/hurt to a person. He never said his boat isn't fixable and has indeed spent much of this week fixing it. Such a shame you can't find a few manners Searush.

I guess I was expecting a slagging its not uncommon on here which is a shame, such posts are not welcome.

We dont have yachts at our marina, but I see many Yachty people on my travels and most of them are fairly nice and friendly people, I think it must be a mentality thing, when I arrive at a marina the first thing I do is wash down, then dry/shammy leave for few mins and polish one side. I see some (repeat some) yachts come in and people leave sometimes they dont even wash down, so I would imagine that some dont care about a boat and the older it is the worst it is, and they cant understand why some like you and I are proud of our boats, (having said that mine is only 40ft, one your size I would struggle to keep to the same standard)

Im fairly thick skinned but thanks for the defence, it did get to me a bit so I lowered my standard and put a message on his thread, having a laugh is ok but there is a line.

I think I will be more prepared in the future, fortunately there are more useful people on here than idiots, we all do stupid things, having said that last Friday I had lunch with John Terry and they dont come any more stupid than him.

6.36 am and off to boat now for the last day quick polish before going in the water then head to Cowes on Fri for a night, then not sure as weather turning Sunday.

I have joined in the banter solentphil and I have enjoyed Searushs contributions, in my opinion you are entitled to claim compensation morally and legally, you sort of set yourself up in your opening statement which read to me that
you dont agree with everyone else claiming compo but you had every right to

I havent read anything in this thread which leads me to believe anyone seriously thinks you are claiming for something you are not entitled to.

I hope nothing I posted added to your discomfort and apologise sincerely if it did.

I havent read anything in this thread which leads me to believe anyone seriously thinks you are claiming for something you are not entitled to.

I think the problem may arise with the idea of a claim for injury to feelings due to having a scruffy looking boat for a while. Not everybody would be as sensitive - that's neither a good nor a bad thing - and so it's hard to see why an insurer should compensate one person more than another, unless they took account of this when setting premiums.

Good to hear it - doesn't really sound like you have much to complain about, not like poor old Searush. He has a broken leg so can't even use his boat, so instead he idles away the time trolling on here and (as usual) he has reeled a few in.
