Compass mail order

I ordered a boarding ladder, navigation light and boat cover from Compass Watersports - the prices seemed reasonable and postage only £5.95

I cannot believe the inefficiency that has resulted.

A box with a picture of a wheel barrow on it - but a small sticky label saying "stainless stell ladder" arrived separately by courier. Inside was a wheel barrow. I arranged for that to be collected. Two days later the cover and the light arrived separatelyby courier. And on the same day another courier collected the wheely thing.

I await with baited breath the next attempt to deliver the outstanding ladder.

How much less could they charge for their stuff if they were not wasting so much money with courier services?

What a shambles! I have had no experience with this lot, but given the efficiency of most mail order firms these days, they won't last long if they keep that kind of service up!!

I sincerely hope your ladder doesn't appear in some other guise (pond liner? garden gnome?).

On my first order from Compass the same thing occurred - Double deliveries, things ordered not delivered at all, took me two months and endless calls to get things right. It was Murphy's law all over.
So it was with some anxiety that I ordered from them last year. This was for a large number of things, and it was carried out speedily and correctly. One item I sent back because it wasn't up to expectation was exchanged for another of my choice within five days.
In Holland at least, it seems, they have mended their ways.

While getting my last boat ready to launch following a 2 year restoration, about 4 years ago I used compass almost exclusively and apart from a couple of non esential things that were out of stock, everything was delivered on time and without any drama. Would not hesitate to use them again. Mike.

Hmmm. I ordered some stuff just before Xmas. All arrived ok. Maybe you've just been unlucky.

Don't use them a lot but when I have they have been prompt and efficient . This includes the collection and return of satelite radio that had something loose inside from manufacture.

Hi Bob
I would agree with the others here. Been using Compass for several years and been perfectly happy with prices, service and after sales service. On the other hand I have spent the past year and a half trying to get a catalogue from Gaelforce and still waiting.

Think you have been unlucky

I have just used Compass with great results, and am planning to use them in the near future for a inflatable and engine combination.
Wish me luck.

I have used Compass many times & have had no problems. They do have a wierd system if items are not immediately available.I have had three packages in five days when it would have been more sensible for them to have waited(and cheaper) & sent one package.Probably due to the computer system. The one item I returned it was immediately credited.

I had awful problems with them a couple of years ago over International Gelshield and antifouling. They told me it was all in stock and took full payment but only antifouling arrived, wrong colour. Many expensive phone calls, worthless promises and finally admission they had no Gelshield. Eventually gave up and bought from Gaelforce, delivered next day. Loads more hassle to get a refund. Would not touch them again.

Have had occasional gremlins with Compass, but overall I rate them very highly -- particularly what seems to be their returns policy. I had from them a set of oilies which began to leak after 18 months. 'No problem', they said, 'they're guaranteed for five years, anyway' -- and they were as good as their word.

It's possible they are using direct dispatch on some items, maybe country specific stuff like needing UK mains plugs, or perhaps european distribution agreements here and there. I'm only guessing.
