The plastic cover for my compass has finally fallen to bits, have tried every where to get a new one, but they are no longer made.
So I was wondering if I could make one myself, has any one tried making a mould and then casting in plastic/rubber or any thing else.
All suggestions greatly appreciated.

It might help to know the type of compass.

My original Plastimo 'porthole' Contest cover eventually gave in to UV sunlight and cracked up, but I found that, along with a large bubble forming and the card sticking, was nature's way of telling me I really had to put hand in wallet for a new one, after all it's the primary, battery - free instrument.

My third cover for my Plastimo (101 I think) has just disintegrated and I was on the way up to the chandler tomorrow for another. The replacement covers will then have amounted to more than a new compass (and MUCH more than the original cost). Compass itself is still perfect though :) )

Tape measure...then either a Toyshop or a Petshop and a rubber/plastic playball. Sharp knife/scapel and some adhesive. Cut the ball in half and cut a piece of the spare half to make a 'Tag' or lift point which you stick on top so that you can take the lid off when you need the compass...It will serve until you arrange a mortgage on a new Plastimo cover..:)

Thanks for all your posts.
Omega 2. I have ordered one from Seacrew, does not look quite the same, as mine, but I might be able to alter it, if it is no good I will go down Oldsalt's route, but that will have to be a winter job, when I can get the compass off the boat.
