Compass binoculars batteries

The light of the built in compass (Compass binoculars) doesnt work I have tried to change the 2 batteries but dont succeed, is there any piece of metal in the cap to make the connection,perhaps I have lost it when opening the cap.Its the first time I open the cap.Thanks

You need two connections, one to each side of the battery, one connection is usually underneath and the other one can be in contact with the side or the top. Sometimes one connection can be part of the cap or battery cover.

The nice Monk optics Nautilus binos i had used for 15 years I could not get the light to work after changing the batts and in desperation I gave up and relegated them to home use without compass light ( we overlook the ICW here in Daytona so lots to look at) and bought myself new West marine own branded ones ( made by Fujinon I think) on sale at half price which are really very much better all round so taking away some of my irritation. On the old ones the 2nd contact was on the side of the little battery compartment and I succeeded only in damaging it whilst trying to clean it.

Thank you for your help,the recess where i need to put the batteries is not very well engineered and with your help I find how to put the upper second battery in contact by its side to the second connection which was a bit damaged

Glad it worked in your case, it really is a fiddly job to balance the 2nd battery on top of the first one and then replace the compartment cover without moving something that destroys the contact. In my case I managed also to damage the threads on the screw in cover, but even when the (UK) importers helpfully found an old one to match mine and mailed me it to try, I still could not get the compass light to work. The system is still the same on my new binoculars so I'm hoping the batteries will last a long time!
