OTOH, it is warm & dry under the sprayhood, with a good view all round & you are pretty well at the boat's CoG so there is relatively little motion. I can see why it is a prized location, even if it blocks everyone's passage.

And that is exactly what mine is used for on cold / wet offshore night passages:D

I was always taught that owners and backside people sit or stand in the companionway. (I can't bring myself to putting **'s in to alter the traditional alliterative word that goes in the sentence)

I guess Jimi's wife is the part owner so she gets to sit there?

However I have been reduced to "Put the kettle on - you're nearest" and "Can you go and write up the log - you're nearest" and "Can you put a fix on the chart - you're nearest" such sentences until they get the message to move.

It is probably different if the crew is SWMBO and the part owner.

That must be embarrasing getting someone to Right up your daily log.
No one rights up mine except myself!:D:D:D;)

Yup,she's part owner and also puts up with a lot, so anything that helps her to enjoy the boat is a plus to me!

Likewise with my other half - and as she continues to come sailing and says she enjoys it, I am not complaining.

Despite my comments I agree with those who say when on passage its a good place to sit. Under the sprayhood and yet often with a good view. I had a friend who made a seat specially for the occasion. Nice and curved so it didn't matter about the angle of heel.

I had been meaning to make a seat that would slide into the washboard slot, thought it just me who liked sitting there, obviously not!
I currently just put the bottom washboard in and fold up a fleece or whatever to make a cushion, but it's a pretty thin washboard, and after a couple of hours it feels like I am developing whole new transverse topography down there.
This seat is only ever occupied when the rain is hammering down and we're under autopilot. Funnily enough SWMBO is never in a hurry to get out on deck on those sorts of days.
