Commodore's flag....

Re: Commodore\'s flag....

[ QUOTE ]
I have just become Commodore and have been given a flag....

[/ QUOTE ] Does that mean you have risen through the ranks of Rear Commodore and Vice Commodore and have now lost your balls.

Re: Commodore\'s flag....

In the Navy the Commodore is generally in command of the barracks of a port division, not a ship, but he does have a flag.

Re: Commodore\'s flag....

Where: At the masthead of a sailing boat or bows of a motor boat
When: when onboard or in close proximity to vessel. ie if you go ashore to the club house you don't need to take the broad pennant with you!

Should be prepared to acknowledge the 'salute' of members of your sailing club when afloat. The normal salute would be dipping the ensign but other members may have different ideas!!

Re: Commodore\'s flag....

So were you voted or was it your turn. Can you navigate. Are you a doctor. This is one of the saddest posts ever.

Re: Commodore\'s flag....

Sounds like you'll make the epitomy of a commode. I meant navigate in its fullest sense not just out of the bar into the dinghy. Is your mum proud of you? Bet you're a dinghy man they always are.

Re: Commodore\'s flag....

What have I done to upset you....have you never made it to Commodore...

Our club is a small sailing club with 35 paying members we have about 12 yachts and 12 dinghies. Membership and moorings our about £220 for the year for a family with one boat.

I am proud of our club and wanted to fly my flag/pendant with pride...so I asked a simple question...

Re: Commodore\'s flag....

OK you have my apology because of the size of your club. Just high spirits because other posts have put me in bun fight mode. It was rather sad ref pennant though. BOL My post above is genuine attempt to come up with other names for officers in clubs not a clip at you.

Re: Commodore\'s flag....

Nothing wrong with having a 'small' club , the WSC is quite well known around here and here is where the sailing puts other demands on the skipper , try navigating a boat around a collection of deep puddles and you'll know what I mean

Re: Commodore\'s flag....

You do have the correct flag?

Re: Commodore\'s flag....

Ignore them - you and I know how much work flag officers do, usually to a chorus of abuse and complaints.

Presumably your flag is a swallow-tailed version of the club's triangular burgee? It simply replaces that, so most yachties wear it on the starboard spreader because there's too much other stuff at the masthead. There's loads of info in the RYA flags booklet, about nothing being flown higher than your club's burgee, only flying it when aboard, etc., etc. My personal choice is to largely ignore all this stuff but if you are going to do it you might as well do it right.

Hope your position goes well. Try to avoid the flak, steer a middle course and you should enjoy it.

Re: Commodore\'s flag....

"Are you a doctor?" please explain to me as I am one and does this mean I will one day be a Commodore with or without my consent? /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Re: Commodore\'s flag....

Vyv_cox is right.

You simply fly it in place of your normal club burgee.

Presumably your club does not have special burgees for Vice Commodore and Rear Commodore which are the same swallow tailed version of the club burgee but with 1 and 2 balls respectively in the cantons next to the hoist.
