Last time I traveled out from Poole on the Barfleur, I was interested to note that she was being re-fuelled by a boat called "Whitchallenger" - registered in Douglas.

I would have thought Brittany Ferry boats would bunker up in France, but no, one of the crew told me this was done twice a week this side of the water. Anyone tell me where "Whitchallenger" is based, and how she works. Are many large ships 'bunkered' by special tanker boats I wonder? Just interested.

it is common for cross channel ferries to bunker in the uk - fawley is on the doorstelp and can offer 'cheap' fuel.

she will thus run from the fawley area, and cover portsmouth, southampton and poole.

whitship tankers - not much on google

Hi Philip
I hope that this helps:
mt 'Whitchallenger' is one of a fleet of 20 vessels owned and operated by John H. Whitaker (Tankers) Limited based in Hull.
Whitakers, who were formed in 1880, operate tankships of 700 to 4,500 tonnes around the coastal routes of Europe.
