Have recently had my appendix out back at home in Shepperton, can't yet face the journey back down to house in Southampton and Mum and Dad have embarked on their journey around the West Country and Channel Islands for 3 weeks so am staying with my Nan for a while, she lives on the Thames. Whilst keeping one eye on the cricket last weekend i had the other on the river. My dogs are also on holiday at my Nan's and you could say that Jess my German Shepherd is quite noisy especially when boats are close enough to jump ashore. Nan has 3 boats moored on her frontage and the water is only about 2-3 foot deep. Her own boat a 12ft Broom sits in the least amount of water.

Getting to the point, there is cruising along on the correct side of the river and then there is going past speeding at touching distance causing the boats to bounce and hit everything everywhere. It was amazing, i expect it from the hire boats but from cruisers of all sizes that i recognise to have been on the river for sometime - its getting ridiculous! Is it blind ignorance or are people being nosey. If it was one or two then fair enough but its loads of people including the canal boats (obviously not speeding), the dogs were barking most of the day. It's not a narrow stretch there is plenty of water, why do they come literally within inches of the boats? Maybe they wanted to know the cricket score?

And there was me thinking this was an invite for a cuppa !

Do agree with you though.... last couple of weeks on the river have seen many instances including a prat in a 40 odd foot jobby ignoring absolutely everybody shouting at him to slow down. Speeding isnt always the issue...most planing and semi-displacement boats create serious wash even at low speed. As for the rowers escort boats..........

Will wave as we glide by....get well soon.
