Hi and welcome to the forum, assume you must mean something like this Sunquest .Certainly seems a lot of boat for the money.Might be worth a quick search on here with regard to those CAT engines.Lots of recent comment about good and bad versions.

i beleive she is slow with 2 x 355 hp Cats
that will affect resale value for sure being the 50 a Planning hull...
as for the value one has to give great importance to the detail and finishing for this motor yacht, Colvic Sunquest where also sold as bare empty hull projects
the John Benett hull is pretty good in bad weather and altough more sticky then a Bernard Olenski Hull IMO it is a more stable seaworthy hull

Thanks for the advise, she has been fitted out very well so iam led to believe, all the bills are from uk comanies. the pics look good and the guy has every bill. itsonly done 185 hours and he has been a max of 2 miles from shore. tells me it was his dream but now at 70 its too much bother, this could all be bla bla but hes sounds ok ? I have made an offer of 150K providing what he said is true, that has been accepted. I just cant seem to find a price comparison. Iam chatting to him in the am and looking at it in gib next week, however if it was a fairline or princess i would have a good idea. any ideas who i could chat too ?
thanks again for any advise

Ooh, she was parked on the end of our pontoon at the weekend. If it's the one, then she' normally opposite the restaurants but was moved to make room for the temporary stage for the bands for the bank holiday weekend. All cancelled for the rain though. Cracking looking boat. The boat that's normally there is a big squaddie - nice boat, but I prefer the looks of the Princess.

Personally IMHO you had a lot better boat in the 470, you req 50hp per ton to make a boat plane 355x2=710 and thats on a good day, would say colvick will be more than 18 tons loaded so it wont plane properly even empty, needs 900hp minium to make it a reasonable cruising boat by todays standards.
Also self fitted out boats are vary difficult to sell and resale value is way below any production boat, be very carefull and get a good surveyor thats done selfbuilds before.
Nearly went down self build road some years back with Humber 40 mouldings, only because I had no money to buy a prod boat I liked.
If you search through old mby mags there was a 50 sunquest built in a field some years back, he fitted 480 tamd122 diesels it was not a great sucess, he re engined with bigger cummins some years later, think its still in Berthons at Lymington.

Hiya all and thanks very much for you advise, I think i will let it go cold and see what happens and maybe offer a revised price allowing for re engine with much bigger ones. I guess about 50k should be near the cost ?

thanks all again

Hi,
I believe these vessels were quite often self fitted out projects, therefore placing value can be very difficult as well as the residual values on the resale side of things. I know of a broker who once had a colvic on the books for three years until it eventualy sold !!!
Hope this may help
