Walking the dog at Bembridge on Sunday afternoon and was surprised to see a decent-sized rag and stick boat called Zara gone the wrong side of the first channel buoy leaving the harbour! They were all sat on the boat at 45 degrees looking glum and it was made even worse by the fact that they were only about 10 feet from land! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Even I know which side of the boat the red and green buoys go! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Sitting above the marina awaiting SWMBO on Sunday afternoon I was watching the world go by.

I saw a MOBO doing something stupid.

Are all MOBO owners so utterly useless?

Maybe they should take lessons from us sailors who know everything!

*** Usual disclaimers apply, this is a response to another pathetic troll ***

Unfortunately you are right. I would like to be able to say that we do all these wrong things by mistake - but no! We do them deliberately /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Trouble is, I'm bored with the same old pranks year after year. I want some new chav-style ideas. I'm done with spilling sailors tea with my wash. I have had enough of cutting up raggies so as they lose their sail and wobble all over the place - and as for driving clean over the top of one, well...that's just passe /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Troll

I see this term banded about so often by posters who either disagree with, or take exception to, anothers post!

Why is Britemp a troll because he posted what he thought was an amusing incident?

Why does it have to be a them and us scenario?

I've spent many a pleasant drink sodden afternoon at the Batwatch caff watching boats go straight in and out of Bembridge and ignoring the channel markers but only at or near HW
I know it sounds highly implausible but could it be yottie knew what he was doing?

Re: Troll

I saw this too, i moor in Bembridge and even i had to launch the tender just to take a look on the Sunday morning as not a usual sight. There was four of us in the tender (2 mobos + 2 r&s) and the views between us were widely split. Mobos found a single keel boat making a mistake like that unforgivable but for the rag & stick two it was a slight miscalculation?!

My views are;

Single keel = shaft driven mobo
Twin keel = Stern drives

Tend to take more risks with twin/stern boats as opposed to single/shaft for obvious reasons.

Before starting the normal debate as to why leave Bembridge that late on a falling tide, etc you need to ask yourself if it was a mix of an engine issue with easterly winds rather than bad judgment?!

Troll? How can I be trolling when my last boat was of the rag and stick variety? (a 505 in case you're interested! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

I've got plenty of stories of dozy moboers on the Broads if you want. Maybe I should alternately post raggie and moboer so you don't have cry yourself to sleep every night shipswoofy? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Sorry to offend, I will try an explain why I wrote what I did. I had to go out soon after I wrote it so did not have chance to respond sooner.

The thing that gets my goat, maybe in this case undeserved is the immediate reference to the other side. Raggies do it too and it drives a wedge between us all. Bad skippers are bad skippers, idiots are idiots. Britemp later says he was a rag and stick man, so I really did jump too soon.

Will try to curtail my 'lets try to enjoy the water together' stance until I have engaged brain. Must stop now as the birch is wearing thin.

I have made many comments regarding colour sight on these forums and I can assure you that in daylight and 10 mtrs from a bouy the colour blind skipper would know the difference.
I am R/G colour blind. it's the only colour blindness that we men are subjected to unless we have some other kind of illness(other than the genetic disorder). Women are the carriers and their sons are the affected.
I can see red and green in isolation (only by the difference in contrast and light) but the problem occurs when there are many colours which create perception problems. This is why the paper tests always give varied results and make males think that they are only slightly colour blind. There is no such thing. If you are Red green colour blind you cannot see purple, red, green, brown and other colours. but you can see Blue and Yellow and that''s why the colours were changed in europe for our little 13 amp plug.
It was only in very recent history that in a snooker match at the Crucible a young player asked the referee to identify the brown ball among'st the reds. There was a stewards meeting and eventually the referee was allowed to inform the lad which ball was the brown (not red and not green) I have have (sadly) not been a snooke player of that level but I have played with my father in law and brother in law who after understanding my circumstances and taking the P**s allowed some (boaty term) leeway. I still got stuffed.
If women sailors were colour bind which by nature they are not and only with exception to illness (as opposed to genetics) non are colour blind. They would have made sure that all navigation lights for boats were blue and yellow. We males don't like to talk about our personal issues.
One last point and my rant is over. One in 6-7 males is colour blind so no wonder the wife chooses the colours at home!
Best regards.

Peter.
