Collision

"The yacht’s mast became entangled with the tanker’s anchor and broke off."

Well, it would, wouldn't it? I hope the racing skipper reported the tanker for that. So-called professionals - don't they know that an anchored vessel gives way to yachts involved in racing?

I bet the skipper went down shouting " out of the way! I'm racing". I wouldn't call it a collision, I thought both vessels had to be underway before they could collide, you don't collide with rocks, you hit them!

"Shockwave", a Sigma 38 I think and it hit the anchor chain. The tanker prepared to get underway to render assistance while keeping the casualty illuminated but then the nearby "Sand Weaver" offered to stop operations and provide a lee from the strong N wind to assist Bembridge Lifeboat.
