I'm petitioning the editors of our wonderfuel magazines to refrain from misuse of the word "collision".
A boat that hits a rock or a jetty or other immoveable object, does not collide with the object. Collision takes place between moving objects, such as two boats.
When a boat hits a stationary object, the proper word - it seems - is allision
(It's amazing what happens when you pick up a dictionary and look for "allusion", isn't it?)
