We have an old Admirals Launch from 1907. It is in great condition and we use it regularly. We now have a problem with the coils and dynamos. The boat is a 24 volt system. Both the Dynamos and the Coils are very old and large which gives us a problem changing them into a newer Alternator system. The Dynamos still seem to be working ok but are noisy now. We cannot seem to find anywhere to buy the bearings or service kits. We know one of the coils is not working and possibly the second. I have photos of them i can post to anyone who may need them for identification purposes. We cannot find anywhere to buy these or find anyone to repair them. The boat has 2 Perkins R6 Sea water cooled deisel engines which are heavy to turn over therefore take a lot from the Batteries. Can anyone help.

Probably worth having a chat with the people at the British Military Powerboat Trust. They must face this sort of problem quite frequently

Your Bio doesnt give even a location, however, there are specialist bearing shops (one near Portsmouth). There are also armature re-winding places so a complete re-work of your existing systems is not beyond the possibilities

If the coils and dynamo are suffering, it is probable that the starting motors are in trouble as well, and that could be the cause of the poor starting.

Any motor rewind specialist worth his salt should be able to repair them. If you have any probs locating one near you let me know, I use two companys either of whom should be capable of carrying out this work.
