Cockpit speaker wiring

I'm looking to mount a cockpit speaker that will be used for both the VHF and the stereo.

I am looking to try and wire in a switch to change between the 2 inputs,but the only switch I have found is for switching between 2 outputs.

Any thoughts on the wiring solution and best speakers for both outputs would be most welcome?

A switch can be used for either inputs or outputs.

You'll need to switch both the pos and neg speaker leads I would have thought. A simple 'one or the other'; switch won't do it. I think it's called a 2 pole/2 throw or something similar. (only adding my 2p's worth as answers seem to be slow in arriving.) there has to be a reasonably simple way to do it though, surely.

Wait on more knowledgeable answers before doing anything drastic.

You will have two channels from the stereo, so if you only hook to one of these you may need to set the radio to mono, otherwise the output will sound like something is missing

For another use on the boat I've just bought a "Heavy Duty Toggle Flick Switch 12V ON/OFF/ON Car Dash Light Metal 12 Volt DPDT" from,

I want it for switching to an ammeter between engine and domestic battery shunts. It has a useful OFF position as well.
But, as noted above, it will only do a single channel, unless you want to have a common earth for each channel wired in permanently.

If the stereo has a bridged output (most do) take the + from one channel and the - from the other. Feed this into a DPDT switch as in this diagram, swap inputs for outputs, and ignore the L/R, use blue for - and red for +:

To clarify:
Put the speaker where the input connectors are shown.
The VHF speaker - output (or ground) on Output 1 blue, the VHF speaker + output on Output 1 red.
The stereo L- output on Output 2 blue, the stereo R+ output on Output 2 red.
