The cockpit floor on my Macwester 31 (rear cockpit version) needs to be replaced, most of the timber is rotten. Does anyone out there has a Mac with a similar problem? Do i replace like for like (without the rott!!) or are there any modifications available?

I replaced the rotten cockpit sole on my boat with a very strong iroko framework and two good size marine-ply hatches covered with Trackmark. Before I did that there was zero access to the sterngear and rear of the engine. Now I can work in there and have also gained some useful storage space. I don't know how to post pics on here but I can e-mail photos to you if you want [PM me with your e-mail address].

It is probably not appropriate to your boat but on my little 21ft trailer sailer I gained additional headroom by removing the ply floor and filling the space between the horizontal stringers with foam then putting a layer of fibreglass over the foam. Actually a few layers for strength.
The glass was covered with carpet and the foam doesn't actually make the floor totally level but it gave me a couple of centimetres more headroom. The down side is that the bilge is now sealed with foam but then having no entry pint for water this doesn't matter.

An idea just for interest olewill
