Cockpit floor replacement

The cockpit floor on my Macwester 31 (rear cockpit version) needs to be replaced, most of the timber is rotten. Does anyone out there has a Mac with a similar problem? Do i replace like for like (without the rott!!) or are there any modifications available?

I replaced the rotten cockpit sole on my boat with a very strong iroko framework and two good size marine-ply hatches covered with Trackmark. Before I did that there was zero access to the sterngear and rear of the engine. Now I can work in there and have also gained some useful storage space. It is probably not appropriate to your boat but on my little 21ft trailer sailer I gained additional headroom by removing the ply floor and filling the space between the horizontal stringers with foam then putting a layer of fibreglass over the foam. Actually a few layers for strength.
The glass was covered with carpet and the foam doesn't actually make the floor totally level but it gave me a couple of centimetres more headroom. The down side is that the bilge is now sealed with foam but then having no entry pint for water this doesn't matter.
