Cobra VHF reset procedure?

Sad tale of a brand-new radio - Cobra F57B E, which didn't link to it's plotter successfully. It now gives 5 beeps when powered on and refuses to do anything else. Can anyone please give me the key-hold/power on procedure to perform a factory reset ? The Cobra "contact us" function is unresponsive. Thanks in anticipation, Bill
 
I've ben trying to find that for ages ... I have a 55 set that I need that for ...

Seems anyone who knows guard it like Crown Jewels .... I think because it will also reset the MMSI so you can input new number ..
 
Partially on topic, I have to say that Cobra disappointed me with their handheld. I was showing full battery, but, when I tried to talk, suddenly was showing battery empty and did not allow me to. I don't think it should happen in marine VHF. After this experience, I bought SH 'normal' unit, despite Cobra being cheaper.
 
Seems they don't have a standard reset sequence across models. These are resets for hand held radios, maybe one may work for fixed?

How to reset a Cobra handheld marine radio.
If your handheld radio is not operating properly, the following describes how to reset the radio to factory settings.
MR HH90, MR HH100, MR HH200
Hold both the MODE button and the WX/UIC button, then power on.Continue holding the buttons until the display test is done.
MR HH125
Hold both the DW button and the MEM/ESC button, then power on.Continue holding the buttons until the display test is done.The display should show “IN”.Power off & back on.
MR HH300, MR HH400
Hold both the WX/UIC button and the HI/LO button, then power on.Continue holding the buttons for a few seconds, then release.
MR HH325, MR HH330, MR HH350, MR HH425, MR HH450, MR HH475, MR HH500
Hold both the H-M-L button and the Tri-Watch button, then power on.Continue holding the buttons until the display test is done.

That happened with my PMR's yesterday strangely enough ... but was due to defective AAA NiMh batterys .... when just switched on and no load I had 5 bars ... Press to talk and radio shut off. Tried them in my Cobra HH's (I have the cheapo 2W pair they used to sell ...) and same. Put fresh batterys in and all fine.
The NiMh I had in them - after so many years just don't have the capability anymore. Swapped out to new NiMh and all back to full order again.

If you are using NiMh - the battery indicator is only good for Full or Empty .... not like Dry Cell Alkalines where battery indicator will show battery reducing. NiMh will show near full voltage till near discharged - but is unable to deliver the power in those low levels.

Yes, I saw this on the site. Why handhelds only I wonder? Maybe the DSC thing. Anyway it looks as if a transatlantic phonecall is in order - customer satisfaction plummeting. Still V interested if anyone out there wants to PM me in secret! Thanks for reading

If they are anything like Cobra dealers over this way ... they will never give any info of this sort .. the answer will be ... Bring it in Sir .. we'll look at it.

Why would they give up their chargeable business ?

Thanks Graham, I have opened a dialogue with them, so at least there is a response this time (unlike Cobra) . We'll see how it progresses.
 
Both my ship radios are Cobra. Cheap as chips but I won't be replacing them like for like. The HH has poor performance, I often have difficulty raising people in the Solent. The ship radio is OK but, despite the antenna being mast height, the range is disappointing.

Marathon are a pleasure to deal with and usually very helpful.
 
Most problems with VHF range are down to connectors and cable. The deck / mast cable connectors are often in good need of cleaning or replacing ... too often you see wrong co-ax cable used ....

Not saying anyone here ... but I know my connectors are due for a 'service' ... amongst various other jobs with relaunch.

Must be serious with my HH350. The reset did nothing. Everything appears to respond to button pushing. I have even learnt to set an ATIS number. Just does not transmit and receive. Just stopped without warning.
 
Further information : it appears the radio requires to be connected to a computer in order to be reset, so it may have to be sent South if there are no local (West of Scotland) agents equipped to do this. Marathon have been very helpful thus far.
 
It's a miracle!!! Well not really of course. I put it on the bench in the shed and it came alive without beeping and still with my MMSI registered. I moved some untidy cables and it went back into beep mode. It turned out to be a short on the NMEA/ALARM OUT cable which comes with ends stripped unfortunately. I must have brought them together while mousing the cables originally, and thought I had a NMEA IN problem. Hey Ho. I'll try to sell it now with a reduction for MMSI reset.
