A bien tot.

Quite a little body of firebrands, aren't we! Are you all hung-over?
Robin, I'd get out while you're ahead. I'm going to. Quandary, that sounds a perfect moniker for you. Captain 'Searush' Birdseye, and Premature Ventricular Boy, the scene is yours, and you're welcome to it.

you seem disappointed. The reason for the lack of ire may be that all three topics (the third being the withdrawal of the coastguard tugs, which you have not yet picked up on) have been exhaustively discussed on several threads over the last few weeks. Some of them were started by coastguard employees. We have already heard from posters who appear to be pro cuts, antis, scots Nats, conformists, contrarians, conservatives, various brands of socialists and even Blairite supporters.

sadly, we've all made up our minds, had our say, signed up to petitions and fallen out already!

Thank you, and goodnight.

Thank you, Grumpy Bear, you sound like the only reasonable man reading this today.

But, as with the earlier contributors, I haven't actually heard any conclusive decision. Is it a good thing if coastguard responsibilities are out-sourced to private hands, or don't we care? I know nothing about coastguard tugs - I'd like to - but there's been no mention of detail today.

I said to start with, that I was in the dark; I haven't learned much I didn't know already...except, that there are some oddball characters on this forum..

Thank you for the kind words, but "reasonable" is not a description many of my friends would recognise!

Try looking through the old threads. you might find it useful on both counts: there is plenty of detail including links to original government statements etc. You will see that we all care passionately, although we draw different conclusions, so there is no consensus. if you have nothing better to do you could count up the number of different posters taking up pro, anti and neutral positions on each issue. Those who oppose the changes have been variously admired to sign up to petitions, write to their MP, attend public meetings etc.

Sorry to disagree with the people who know you, Grumpy Bear, but you are definitely a reasonable guy.

I'll look through the old posts.

Reading the dismissive words written earlier, I'd begun to form the view that no-one thought it even mattered. Thanks for setting that straight.

We do think it matters, one way or the other. That's why we got there a while ago. Check back previous posts.

... The problem is summer storms and squalls when hundreds of witless, ill-equipped and inexperienced yachtsmen are at sea as conditions turn vicious. ...

Maybe these 'hundreds of witless, ill-equipped and inexperienced yachtsmen' will come to realise that the sea can be a dangerous place and keep off it until they know what they are doing.

I totally agree with the goverment, they are not cutting but improving our coastguard service, also saving much needed money in the process.
Too many people jump onto the condemnation band wagon when the government are looking out for us yotties welfare. I feel we should all feel rather lucky to have these decision makers that can come up with such a brilliant ideas and being able to undertake these with such obvious lack of knowledge.
I must admit to being totally exasperated with these overpaid idiots by making the same mistake as the last government with regard to vast millions wasted on building centralised call out centres for the fire brigade only to be scrapped by this bunch.
What on earth is going on?????
