Re: C\'mon Everybody

Well I'm working, for one. No public holidays between Whit Monday and Xmas in Holland. That's assuming Xmas Day is not a Saturday, in which case we get neither Xmas Day, Boxing Day nor New Year's Day. Fortunately Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension Day and Whit Monday rarely fall on a weekend, so we are assured of them! In a bad year Koninginnedag (Queen's Day) could be on a weekend as well, so we would lose that, too. Giving us the princely sum of five public holidays in the year and no days in lieu.

Re: C\'mon Everybody

Hi Vyv

Glad to see someone else is working hard, but keeping an eye on the hustle and bustle that this Forum represents on Bank Holiday monday.

Although I work for an bank which has its Head Office in London and main offices in Milton Keynes (what a delight it is to visit) I am sitting in a bunker in Glasgow, as our Scottish branches are still open. I have nothing to do with the branch network though...

Someone, somewhere should make a decision on Public Holdiays in Britain.

The sun's shining (so I'm told).....

Donald

Re: C\'mon Everybody

I work on a Rota that rolls on 24/7 so miss out on a lot of Bank holidays weekends etc.

The upside is going sailing when all the 9 till 5ers are working means no crowded harbours etc.Unfortunately it also means no sailing in company with old friends .And single handing when the family are in school work etc.

Im hoping Septembers weather will be kind for a couple of short cruises ive got in mind.In the upper reaches of the Bristol Channel.

I used to single hand because I enjoyed the peace and solitude. Now that its usually from neccesity the attractions no longer there.Grass is allways greener as they say.

Best regards to all those soldiering on this weekend.

Re: C\'mon Everybody

Branches not open in Ayr!
Schools are still in and its a normal working day, so the memsahib didn't think twice about driving into town to transfer some dosh (she doesn't trust transfers).
She parked the motor in the bank car park and walked round to the High St. entrance to find it closed. Walked back to the car... and of course she didn't have the barrier code to get the car out BECAUSE THE BANK WAS CLOSED and there was no-one around to give it.
Much grief angst and telephone calls before liberation.
I won't be mentioning English bank holidays for a while.

It's the white one.. still on the hard.. the red one apparently belongs to a couple of Brummies who sail her hard..

Charisma is a little scruffy but solid.. general clean up required..

Oh and what colour do you think a CO26 called Charisma should be? I'm sort of toying with black..

Re: C\'mon Everybody

Went to Calais (ferry) to buy loads of booze for my sons 21st. Got there - chose booze - Credit card no 1 refused to pay (€1000) card no 2 refused, card no 3 OK - pheeewww - So now lunch time - have Moules Frites etc. - pay the bill - credit card no 1 - no - credit card no 2 - no Credit card no 3 - no . So money to pay!!!

Got home - calls from all credit cards saying I had transactions in france so they blocked my card. Security to suit the credit card company -not the user.

Good day out though - saw some poot sods struggling to beat back to dover
