I too remember gathering mussels & whelks at Wemyss Bay with my father who probably worked in most of the major yards from Govan to Gourock in his life. Also fond memories of family trips 'doon the water' to Dunoon, Rothesey & Millport, on the Waverley and what was the original Queen Mary. Can't remember her name, but when Cunard built the ocean liner of the same name, she gave up her name to the greater ship. Had my last trip to Rothesey 6 years ago with my parents, just before my mother, who was from Ascog on Bute, passed away. I still love the area even though I now live in Norfolk. Although I don't have a rag & stick, from what I have seen, it must beat an overcrowded Solent hands down for sailing.

Had the pleasure of visiting Rothesay a couple of weekends ago with Mater & Pater just as the Waverly was about to leave the harbour. Can only agree, the west coast is the place to be!
