Clyde ferry and sailing restrictions

That would be the "Wee Hurrie" over at the outer harbour in Troon. Brilliant food, each portion cooked to order, which means you often have to queue for ages to get it. Worth the wait though.

Explains why its called 'the Wee Hurry'?
Best fish and chips by a country mile on the West Coast is (was)the Seafood Bar at the Crinan hotel, believe it or not, their Arbroath Smokies are great as well (they give you two) but you have to be very specific about the chips or you get 'french fries'.

If you are not drinking they will sell you a pint of draught Peroni w ith it.

They're nice, but no better than the Wemyss Bay chippie and nowhere near as good as the pizza place in Moffat.

The Boathouse on Gigha does nice fish and chips too, but when I took my crew and a young friend there a few years a go, fish and chips for three plus puddings and soft drinks all round came to over seventy quid.

The timing of the ferries reinstatement is working out well for me! The boat is in the water all winter in Rothesay Harbour and I have been stuck working in the Netherlands with a return date of 18th July so here's hoping the quarantine requirements are lifted by then!

Re Chippies - The Wee Hurry in Troon was set up next to McCallums Oyster Bar (the building is the old hydraulic reservoir that drove the winding and lifting tackle for the port using tidal seawater AFAIK) Both establishments were started and are probably still run by the Fisk Merchants so the produce is fabulous! Not open on Mondays for obvious reasons...

Try also The Fish Works in Largs. Very impressive

I'm told that capacity may be very limited on Wemyss Bay - Rothesay at first. Car passengers have to stay in their vehicles, but I don't know how full they are filling the car deck. The Colintraive Ferry is, I gather, running as many crossings as needed and so a better bet. In fact in happier times I find Bute - Edinburgh via Colintraive to take only half an hour longer than via Wemyss Bay, if that, since half an hour of the longer drive is saved by the shorter crossing.

Western Ferries are running half hourly, which might be a viable alternative - I use them if I have taken the Colintraive ferry on my way to Galloway but not if I'm going to Edinburgh.

I used to use the SeaCat but never managed to get it when the chip shop was open. If the Clyde opens up over the next few weeks, I’ll make a trip to the Marina.
