Clovelly Mooring Buouy?

Does one exist?

If not, what is the holding like as I would like to overnight and go ashore to the pub for dinner.

I can't help as much with your questions but a club member has told me Clovelly is a much "nicer" achorage then anchoring out in Ilfracombe/Combe Martin when heading "round the corner". I can only assume holding is fine as he was talking about Ilfracombe/ Combe Martin being rolly.

Clovelly can certainly get swell: quite a lot at times. It's a very long time since I was there (dried out against the pier in fine weather) but the only buoy then was for the 70 ft lifeboat that stayed permanently in the water there - with if I remember correctly a full-time paid crew. The fact that the only two of these largest boats the RNLI had were at Clovelly and in the Orkneys might be an indication that it's potentially a fairly dangerous coast.

Give the Red Lion Hotel a call, 1237 431237, and ask if Tommy is available. He's one of the boat fishermen and can 'fix ' temporary moorings.

There used to be a big buoy there, which I was told was for Trinity house vessels but had never been used. It was the same as the one just outside the Lundy anchorage. I used the one off Clovelly a few times without a problem. One thing to remember is the strope is large diameter and too big for normal cleats.

Holding is good at Clovelley. Anchored there only last Friday.
Tuck in as well as you can, off the car park with the harbour pier on the left. and yes there is a swell but it is least in this point.
