Close quarter handling, what's harder

'I took a little 20 something ft Doral I think, from the yacht haven to Salters in Poole yesterday. Its not that far but had a few 6 foot waves in harbour.'

I have been boating out of Poole for 30 years and i can honestly say i have never seen 6 foot waves in Poole harbour!!!!!! even in the storm of 1987.

Hi Ian

I have a SeaRay 315 like yours, single outdrive diesel but with the delights of a bow thruster, which does take the worry out of berthing etc, although i try not to use it / rely upon it too much, I wouldn't want to be without it.

As a powerboater and sailor i love the sail vs power debate and see both sides, I take the view as others here have that all boats have their strengths and weaknesses when in close quarter low speed situations.

We saw same very "interesting" berthing attempts in Yarmouth last w/e from both mobos and yachts - great fun to watch and illistrating all the points made about how different boats handle!
