Just bought a new boat with newly installed instruments. The Clipper depth uses a through-hull transducer mounted about half way down from the waterline on the port side. There's a sizeable block of wood fixed to the hull to take the transducer. I would say it's not especially well shaped, being essentially a box shape with the corners s lightly rounded off.

The depth sounder works fine up to about 4kt boost speed, then becomes quite erratic. I'm wondering if there is turbulence over the transducer, and if reshaping it might help?

I think you are probably right. Could you move it temporarily further down the curve of the hull? Attach it with blue tack or similar.
Could you get it forward of the keel?

Mounting in a tube bonded inside the bilge and suspended in oil within the tube is usually the recommended way, but as long as their is decent contact between the transducer and the hull it should work well.

I have a similar problem in that mine will stop if there is too much air (in rough conditions) getting under the hull.

its too much of a fag to move the transducer or fit a new one on the transom. it works fine at speed (figure of speech with Little Ship) in calmer conditions.

Tom.
