Pheran, MikeT and lil' 'ol me are all now qualified to press that red button on the DSC sets. The instructor was heard to say "Those 3 guys are the most intelligent and best looking dudes ever to pass through these portals" So if any of youse are unqualified to use your index finger and find yourself in a Mayday situation, call one of us and we will press the button for you.

Pauline.

Just noticed your new picture. I never realised how beautiful, composed and lady like you are....

But! were you valedictorian like what we was? Did thousands of fans line the streets shouting your names like they did for us? You should have seen us, MikeT held Pheran up over the balcony and almost dropped him, I wrote my name on a pillow and threw it into the crowd, Pheran ripped his shirt open to the waist sending the teenyboppers into a frenzy. MiketT mopped his brow with a kerchief and gave it to an admiring fan who promptly passed out with happiness and had to be carried off.
Nay Lad, t'was truly our day, our index digits are now considered a national treasure and can no longer be used for such mundane jobs as nose bogie extractors etc.

I heard that you can get a distinction on the course, but they rarely give those out. Did you get one Byron?

If you already hold a VHF or VHF/MF licence the test for pressing the red button is just plain common sense.

No distinction on the DSC or VHF course, maybe your Instructor/School gives them out on a personal basis. I took my tests in 1974 when you had to take both MF & VHF tests both on a boat and in a classroom, much more involved than today. You were then issued with an impressive passport type book stating that you were qualified in the restricted use of wireless telephony. These are still valid today.

There's no option any longer.. If you do the radio course new, DSC is an integral part of it. The DCS only upgrade is for those who did VHF in the past

You can call him now, if anyone were to say anything then your answer is "I was acting under the guidance of a qualified operator" namely OLDGIT.
