Clearing French Customs in Camaret

Yes. For all I know that may be the case, the mainland authorities are free to do what they like, as are we. I should point our that I am very fond of France and have spent a considerable amount of time sailing there.

I was just making rwo points :

1) The French authorities were always going to ease their entry requirements because it is hugely in their interests to do so.

2) The UK system is not so prescriptive and therefore easier and safer than the French.

The 80+ page manual that you need if the UK system tells you to check someone's ID is significantly more prescriptive that the French version. As is the requirement to complete the form within 24 hours of arrival - if you're half way across Biscay and get told to offload someone, what then?

I've never had any problem or inconvenience getting in or out of France, the most confusion I've experienced seems to be returning to the UK when I've had a different reaction to my return depending on who I'd tried to check in with,

I agree. Last week I checked out of France for CI's no problem. Next stop was going to be Cherbourg but changed my plan and did St PP to Poole, when I got in phone range of Poole I logged into the UK online system to fill in my return form.
1st Q Place, Date and Time of departure.
Place no problem.
Date and Time of departure: (yesterday) 09:30
PROBLEM - Can't enter a Date and Time in the past!
so I entered (today) 09:30
When I got to the Arrival Date I put in (today) 12:30
The system was happy with that
