Cleaning out diesel fuel tank

Unless you always fill from cans, a filter funnel may be too slow to pass the fuel from a normal pump.

With normal pumps (eg as at a garage) it copes well with some stop/start – not enough to put me off filtering (110 litre main tank, 120 l spare bladder plus 6 jerry cans). With a high capacity pump (eg used to filling large MBOs) it is very hard (but I have to use a funnel or extended tube and stop/start these anyway as the nozzles won’t go in my filler).
The question is how keen are you to keep water and contaminants out of your tank and whether you trust your source(s) of fuel? Unless there is a leak in your system water comes from either the source (hence filter it) or condensation (hence keep tank full). I’d rather keep stuff out than rely on filtering it out once its in. Cheers, Andrew
