Has anyone any bright ideas on cleaning out a diesel fuel tank?

? Best way to pump or syphon out the existing fuel and any tips for cleaning out the sludge.

Look forward to any helpful advice.

Regards,

I pumped out my fibreglass tank using a small (on offer at a local store for £1.99) centrifugal pump mounted on a drill and then removed the tank to the garage.

For fibreglass (and S/S) commercial steam cleaning is an option but on the basis that it was too expensive I used a high pressure wash with detergent solution followed by a high pressure wash with fresh water - followed by a week in a heated garage to let it drain completely and dry out.

Looks as good as new inside and out.

Best regards )

Pump or syphon out slowly so as not to stir the sludge

assuming access scrape up sludge & tin it

wash with steam if poss or we have used hot water & washing powder with sucess

rinse & fill tank with bleach & water

treat fuel with bio agent while out & change all engine filters, return fuel via a fine filter, personally removed engine filter for the purpose last time.
