Cleaning fuel tank

Having suffered countless problems of sludge and dirt coming up through the fuel lines and filters last season, we decided to remove the tank to clean it properly. Can anyone recommend the best way, and product, of flushing out the tank without us having to cut an access hole in the top tank.

If it's happened once it could happen again. Cut a large hole in the top and fit an access hatch. I assume it's made of steel or stainless steel. Mark out a circle or square, drill a hole in a corner and either use a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade or one of the larger sabre/reciprocating saws. Made a lid up with an overlap of about 25mm, and secure with several screws all the way round and fit a diesel proof gasket.
To prevent it happening again, use Soltron and keep the tank as full as possible, particularly over winter(to prevent condensation).

[/ QUOTE ]If you have removed the tank then get a small (½gal) sump fitted to the bottom of your tank so you can drain the water / sludge and dirt out without removing the tank then think of all the money you will save on not having to buy highpriced diesel additives.
