Cleaning corroded connectors - any spray?

How do you clean (what do you use to clean) the corroded electric connectors on your boat?
Speaker wire plugs, horn electric connectors, etc.
I am not interested in how to maintain them (using dialelectric grease) - I would like to find out how to clean them...?

I cleaned the brass pins in my masthead light plug and socket by slathering them in tomato ketchup for a few days. They came out pretty shiny because of the acetic acid.

If you have some severely corroded contacts to clean it might be best to renew the contacts . But you could try this

The electric connections on my boat generally stay Ok except for the ones on the back of the alternator. I once sheered a stud on mine trying to release a nut to remake a connection
Having had the alternator serviced 2 years ago the studs are corroding again.
So like the OP, I have a problem

Can anyone say if they have tried Jenolite Original for removing rust from such items, & did it work?

I have a can of Servisol on board as suggested earlier but find it only Ok for removing slight grease (from fingers etc) from contacts & even then pretty in-effective

I use a little phosphoric acid followed by a good rinse once the corrosion products have dissolved. If you then need to solder onto the cleaned surface a light rub with wet and dry will help things stick. I use Contralube to protect all connectors.

WD40 and an old toothbrush work quite well, or WD 40 and fine abrasive webbing if really bad, but that will take any plating that is still there off.

Err... a contact cleaning pen & brush, Servisol switch & contact cleaner then Servisol grease.

Wherever the contact points are accessible, the only thing I've ever used is a suede brush. They have brass filaments, so don't damage anything. I've dealt with some pretty severe corrosion with these + they're cheap as chips & last for ages.

I sometimes use a brass brush as well. Note that cheaper ones are "brassed".
