Very gently to avoid damaging the anodising. Avoid abrasives and anything strongly acidic or caustic

In my experience, by the time the stanchions look like they need cleaning, the anodising has pretty much all gone! I would only use hot water and detergent applied with a sponge, though. If that is not sufficient, then the chances are that they need polishing and reanodising.
