So a guy I know here in Ireland is a very handy DIY boatbuilder. He originally built a Glen-L outboard powered speedboat and then he built an American style Crackerbox Speedboat with a big shiny inboard sticking through the front deck. The second boat was named Old’s Cool.

On the maiden voyage, Fergal got caught out in a wind squeal in the middle of Lough Ree. Unfortunately he hit a big wave and it appears he broke an engine mount and punctured the hull. The boat sank and he had to be rescued by a friend. Fergal then spent 7 years searching for the boat using various types of sonar equipment. He found over twenty different wrecks on the bottom of Lough Ree and he got great help from the local Sub Aqua Club. They did training dives at the sites where he found wrecks.
This went on for years but Fergal persevered and showed huge determination to find her.
Then recently this showed up on the sonar

A dive confirmed it was Old’s Cool.

This had been well documented on social media and there was huge interest when it was found.
She was recently recovered and is in fairly decent condition considering she spent 7 years on the bottom of a lake.

It’s a great story and Fergal must be congratulated on his resilience and determination.
Now the rebuild starts..
