The Norfolk Broads Yacht Club are holding their Classic Dinghy Weekend over 4/5th August. The event has grown considerably since it started seven years ago and is open to all. There's no entry fee - if you think it's a classic then bring it along and take it sailing or just come along and have a look.

The first 'race' starts after lunch on Saturday (there's an informal BBQ on Saturday night) and ends in time for everyone to get home on Sunday. Water levels are fine and we hope for good weather. The Norfolk Broads Yacht Club probably has the best facilities of any UK inland club.

Hope to see you there. Old Frank

Great weekend. Warm sunshine, decent breeze, couple of beers, BBQ and a lot of knackered dinghies. I really do apologise; no one could possibly use that description who'd caught sight of the helmsmen!

Thoroughly varied bunch of entrants from immaculate National 12s built in the '30s (plus a few newer ones), even a Padstow lugger and a group of classic Merlins. Most of these took disproportionate pleasure in beating elderly Fourteens over the water when the occasion arose.

By and large a great weekend for classic dinghy enthusiasts and an event steadily increasing in popularity - incredibly entrants came from N.Yorkshire, Cheshire, London,Banbury and even darkest Essex. Put it on you calendar for next year - even been promised the odd half rater. Everyone enjoys seeing old dinghies put through their paces by those who know how to handle them. The club (of course) welcomes visiting yachtsmen who only wish to watch - and even sup a little of the local sherbet in the sunshine. Old Frank

Sounds perfect. We're off to salcombe estuary on our bi-annual pilgrimage which we alternate with the Broads usually going to Hickling. Perhaps next year we should come for the racing. Is it likely to be be first weekend of august?
