Is there such a thing as a stand-alone deck mounted chain pawl that will look good on a mahogany deck? Due to my rather complex (old fashioned) bow roller arrangement I am looking for a stand alone unit that I can screw into the deck further back from the roller.

I would like to fit something like that for quite different reason: no windlass at all and would mean I could take a breather, and use the pitching of the boat to help me get the anchor up.

Question is: would be be sniffy about chain size? Not only is my chain not calibrated I don't think its all the same size! Not very varied, just metric and imperial versions of nominally same size.

I would'nt think chain size would matter as long as it slots into the grove , it's a simple chock that stops the chain .One problem i can see is where you get them , i just googled chain pawl with some kind of idea of what i was looking for /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tied up away from the storm. Oh yes.

I've got a custom made one going begging as I've just removed it from my foredeck. Takes 3/8ths chain and is galvanised. I can supply a photo and dimensions given a bit of warning.

As I've fitted a capstan and have a chain hook, it's a bit superfluous and gets in the way.
