Has anyone claimed back GST prior to leaving Australia? We have bought a new tender and believe we can make a claim if the purchase is within 60 day of leaving but the Aussie customs website refers to cruise ship and plane passengers. Tried emailing as per their website and got a message back saying due to current backlog it will take over 60 days to process my email!

If anyone has done this and could enlighten us as to how especially when departing from Darwin I'd be grateful for any tips thanks!

Finally after a visit to the Border à force office aka Customs here in Darwin have the answer- bring your reciept and as long as it has your name on it and you are leaving the country within 60 days of the purchase they will refund via a credit card or similar. Border Force don't need sight of larger items :)

Did this last year with a camera. After about an hour queuing at the airport with the receipt an official said that we could post our receipts and forms which I wish they had told us earlier. However 3 weeks later an envelope arrived at home in London with the receipts and my credit card had got the tax refund.
