Good Morning,

In previous years, we have had a motorboat at Brightlingsea and have motored round to near Jaywick to drop anchor and watch the airshow.
We now have a sail boat at Titchmarsh and as such are coming from the other side. It will take us a lot longer to get round.

Does anyone know how far round we need to go to see the planes?
I am sure it will be obvious on the day, but I was hoping to plan this a bit better.

Currently I am thinking somewhere along Holland on Sea, between Walton / Clacton pier.

Thanks
Andy

Don’t forget high tide is around 12:30 at Walton so by the time you’ve had yr day out it’ll be low tide and then getting back into Tichmarsh may be an issue , just a thought

Although I have never done this, my boat needs 1.1m, which I believe is possible pretty much at all times at Titchmarsh?

Thank you for taking the time to do this. It’s really helpful.
It's good to one or two seconds of arc. I did it in Google Earth, converting the decimals of minutes above to seconds in my head and then moving the cursor until the readings matched so the accuracy isn't wonderful. I do have tools to do it accurately but this is good enough.

Maybe not at the bottom of a Spring tide. But the general rule is that if you can get past Stone Point, you can get into Titchmarsh. The charted depth st Stone Point doesn't get less than about 1.1 m below Chart Datum, but care is required! I've never seen the shoal called Mussel Scarfe exposed, but as I draw 1.6m, I wouldn't be there at that state of the tide. Be aware that it shoals VERY quickly north of the line of buoys; it is safest to allow a good clearance for buoys 12 and 14, and DON'T be tempted to cut corners! The sketch chart on the East Coast Pilot website is the most recent survey (https://eastcoastpilot.com/Stone Point 2021 Sketch 1.pdf)

That’s very helpful thank you. I do have the Pilot book, but have always been coming back on a rising tide.

Because of the tides not being in my favour, I am wondering if there is somewhere closer to Titchmarsh that’s possible to watch the planes? Do you happen to know a better place to drop anchor?
