Although I had agreed deal with broker, owner phoned me and said that the deal must be completed in 7 days and if the survey found any problems he would not be liable, even to discuss it. He felt that if we did continue on the basis I had agreed with broker it would lead to argument.
I felt I could not continue on that basis.
I dont plan to say anymore about this on the forum.
I appreciate that cj doesnae wanna discuss it further - but how strange that so many sellers feel unable to take a walk in someone else's shoes. Can't see how anyone would be willing to buy a boat based on
a) handing over all the money
b) then having a survey and tough shit if its a pile of poo.
and indeed the mere suggestion of that approach is suspicious. I belive tyhat cj know how this should be done - as do many others.
However, for those in the legal profession, and especially for those masively qualified and well-practised in international law, the normal route is as follows:
a) find some dodgy mate's boyfriend and sendim along to negotiate/bully the seller into a cheap deal.
b) instead of paying the mate, get some other mates in the Home Office to deport him as soon as poss.
c) deny all knowledge, leading to hurried announcements of "new" roads, or anything, but eventual resignation of crap prime minister within 3 months, and crap government getting voted out within three years.
CJ you did the right thing. I am not massively experienced in buying boats but recently my brother bort a 52 footer through a broker. The deal was (a) sign contract and pay 10% deposit to broker (as STAKEHOLDER - this is important) then (b) survey, then (c) anything in the survey gets fixed else buyer walks away then (d) mandatory completion following 7 days written notice.
That seems fair and normal to me. There are several T48s for sale so you did the right thing by telling him to get lost imho. This seller doth protest too much and there may have been something wrong with the boat anyway.....
So , a little sympathy for me for a buyer who tried to go down that route but eventually agreed to slowing down...but who won't sign an agreed deposit ...weird or what ???

Good man. Hope you told him to stuff his boat up his arse. I imagine the broker will be pretty pissed off with the seller. IMHO opinion it makes life a lot easier if seller and buyer get on.
