Hope to see u to

We need to know

1/ The size and power of your tender, for the traditional tender racing, Folly to Cowes classic.

2/ Your best time on the New Zealand stage of Colin McCray on the play station for the handicap committee

3/ How much you need to drink to make sure we can beat you on 1 and 2 above!

Stuart

Hmm...... tender racing into cowes and back.....would have to be after dark...and once the follys shut.....count me in, any more takers.

As for size of tender and outboard I'm keeping that firmly under my hat cos I know you got your new 9.8 Tohatsu and think you is in with a chance!

I don't have a tender, so can I enter Iditarod??

I like river races....44knts on the Thames (allegedly! just in case anyone from the Environment Agency is reading....it wasn't me, honest guv!)

Coliholic, I am not having this. I AM MEANT TO BE THE ONE WHO ALWAYS FALLS IN!!!!!

I'm definately up for the tender race, HOWEVER I will not be the jokey. I shall employ my size 8 other half to ride MicroWave to Victory with a 4hp

The challenge has been set!!!!

Do we need Nav lights???

But don't forget the power to weight ratio.
a W12 1200 hp Tank is not faster than an 4 cylinder 32hp Mini.

Exactly how much fuel would we need to get to Cowes and back from IHM??? Remove wood flooring, remove paddles, remove clothes (sorry Nat), fill with hot air from heating.

There you have it a tender and jokey that weights in at 3 kgs

Tenders at dawn....

Is this the new Cowes Classic we ask ourselves
Does it fall under the RYA Motor Cruising section or the Powerboat Racing section?
Should there be a fuel limit to make it (seem) ecologically friendly?
What is the appropriate penalty for hitting a duck?
All of a sudden boxing day at the Folly raises new attractions - suppose I could take tender by car to the Hamble slip - cross to the folly for lunch (!!!!!!), race back to Cowes after a night in a bivvy stopping briefly for accolades (and a Mountgay) in Cowes before returning across the solent.....clearly a stupid plan now - but 0800h boxing day morning will be a different story

Re: Tenders at dawn....

and how do we start such a race?

My thoughts were to use the lock at IHM.
All pile into the lock with both gates closed and then when open we're off!!!

What do you think?

Re: Tenders at dawn....

We need a lower profile than that...

Tenders on pontoon outside folly.

Le Mans style start from bar at sound of last orders bell, then blast down to town key and back....

Last one back gets the drinks in!

Re: Tenders at dawn....

OK.... I hadn’t considered the finer points of the plan!

How about drinks on the losers boat then?

That means Mr Max ends up cleaning not me!

Mind you with his new 9.9 and mini rib thing maybe not!

Re: Tenders at dawn....

how about.
start line declared as pub
start signal last orders bell
dash to tenders
Ian piles off down the river and we all double back and get on Mr Max for a few drinks
Ian returns 30mins later and is declared the winner so we all have even more drinks (on Mr Max)

Re: Tenders at dawn....

OK

Agree to tender race to Cowes
Agree to Le Mans start
Agree to Loser buys the beer
Agree to my boat 4 beer

BUT

can I use both outboards or am I restricted to one ?

can we set out a slalom course to make it more interesting, say down the inside of one mid river pontoon and down the outside of the next, and in and out of the swinging moorings till the chain ferry ?

Also we need a garland for the winner, perhaps we could get sponsorship from Red funnel or maybe the harbourmasters office

how about stopping on thetis pontoon to pick up a take away

oh and we'd need some babes handing out the trophys

Re: Tenders at dawn....

I'm sure my Nat will oblige with the trophy hand out. She'll be naked anyway from my wait saving antics on the rib.
I do wonder what the Barman will think..... rings the bell for last order and expects a rush to bar for drinks but alas everyone legs it out of the pub and down the pontoon.

That would be worth seeing.
