chopped down Norman

Can anybody tell me if the rear cabin of a Norman 25 is an important structural part, I am thinking of hacking it off to make a larger cockpit but don't fancy that sinking feeling.
If any body has experience of this sort of chop job I would appreciate any advise on offer.
