Chinese (5kw )air heater

I just took a punt at one of the 5kw ones to fit into our van (driving down to Aegina to drop off some stuff to Revolution in December).
I've only test run it to date so we'll see how it faires.
We've got a Wallas on Revolution, it rattles, has cost a small fortune in repairs that didn't fix the problem and well, how many Chinese heaters can you buy for the price of a Wallas? I could have had a new one every year for the last decade!
Lets see.....

I had a Wallis 30 yes ago, when it worked it was very good, run on paraffin & used very little power, some times it was on all over a w/e .
Wallis repair shop had it more than i did.

Thanks.
In which case no reported problems with data line impedance / reflections or interference from other instruments then, the detail behind the question.

Not that I've heard of, no, but then I've not extended my own but rather did a search on the Facebook group to find an answer. The longest extension I came across on there was 10 meters.

Recently installed one of these and very impressed so far.
Has anyone extended the (LCD) 3 wire loom?

I've just bought one and bench run it for a few hours prior to install, yes very impressed too.

My unit came with about 2 metres of LCD screen cable, looking at it I think it can be rejoined extended without too much fuss (soldering/wire heat shrink), this was my concern too as I wanted the screen in my cabin.

Well impressed with this unit but proper safety fitting will probably cost more than the unit itself with bulkhead heatshield ect...

Why do you think you need a bulkhead heatshield? The exterior of the heater is no hotter than the warm air it produces.
Indeed, and even if he was concerned then a piece of domestic central heating rad shield, the silvery bubble wrap would be more than adequate.

You're going to have to stop agreeing with me, people will start to think you've been making New Year's resolutions...

Because the exhaust is close to my steel bulkhead and on the other side I have all my electrics, I am just not taking any chances.

£187 + 20% VAT comes out to £225 - say £235 including handling charges.

I thought Eberspachers were significantly more than that.

Well you’ll have to pay a few percent import duty on it in addition to VAT, plus a small (typically £10) handling fee for the shipping company before they release it to you - IF Customs pick it up on its way in. With items I’ve bought from China, sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t. But either way, you’re right, the item is still so much cheaper than a German or American device.

Oh: and if I’m not mistaken, the price seems to have fallen to £135 and no additional VAT or duty as it's posted from Essex!

Indeed, it's fairly easy to find UK stock. I've bought 3 now at £110, £118 and £115 respectively with no import duties/taxes as they were all sent from UK depots, exactly as advertised. There seems to be no advantage in ordering from HK, China or Singapore directly.
By the way, the latest one that I received was imported into the UK (not by me, as stated) as auto parts value $12.

Myn was £135 off eBay, I've just purchased another 2 while they are still available.

I've been advised to duct the big fan air intake into the boat to avoid condensation as my install is engine room open to the elements.

I've had nothing but intermittent trouble with my ebersplutter hot water/rad heater.

She

No so I tried that with an eberspacher it melted the plastic bubbles and gave off toxic fumes.

This is why I am going for titanium exhaust wrap and Thorne Exhaust/Engine Turbo Heat Shield Wrap Mat, it will only cost me about 9 quid so it's a no brainer.

Yes the Chinese heaters are nice but they are still on trial in my mind belt and braces in case it sets on fire, especially as it's installed 1-2 ft away from my pillow as a full time liveaboard boater.

I will take my time installing it right for my own piece of mind and sleep.

I prepare for the worst case, (ex aviation flame tester).

No offence meant we all do stuff differently.

If it melted the bubbles then it was touching the exhaust pipe.
