What? Your boat has got tyres and a children's play area? :cool: You clearly couldn't find any reports of vandalism or the recreation of scenes from the walking dead in the vicinity of the harbour, otherwise I am sure you would have posted them...

When you are next taking your boat to a children's playground several miles from the harbour let me know, I'll video it - it could be worth £250 on "You've been framed" :encouragement:

If local news reports from nearby towns are an indication of what one might expect if visiting a harbour, I am sure you will be advising people not to visit a terrible place like Bosham by boat, or bus, over Christmas - you wouldn't want to get trapped drying out there :eek: http://www.chichester.co.uk/news/lo...as-hunt-continues-to-catch-a-killer-1-6490600

You can even go (and leave) by train after lobbing some bins around. You can't do that in your lah-de-dah soft-southern we're-posher-than-you IOW Newport.

It's only two miles from Newport to Wootton Bridge station on the Isle of Wight railway. Half an hour, tops, or twenty minutes with a mob of angry locals hooting and slavering at your heels.

Never been told, or read about a 2 hour absentee limit. I've certainly been ashore for much longer when anchored there.

Just checked Falmouth Yachthaven site ....... It does state yachts at anchor must not be left unattended for more than 2hrs . A bit restrictive but presumably for ship movements .

I stand corrected. They certainly don't actively pursue this rule. And large ship movements are clearly shown beforehand. But I can't see any other reason for the rule.

Hi LJ .....I guess it's just to cover themselves incase someone is unaware of imminent ship movement and goes off for the day and the harbour move their boat. One good thing about Plymouth ....... You can anchor almost anywhere without payment or harassment.

MORE ABOUT THE VISITORS’ ANCHORAGE

Our anchorage area, centrally located between Custom House Quay and Falmouth Docks and close to busy Duchy Wharf is suitable for use by small craft in most conditions. Please be aware that if you choose to anchor up, you may need to relocate to enable the movement of commercial ships in and around the docks, sometimes at short notice. For this reason please take note that:

All vessels that anchor must have a working engine
You must not leave your craft unattended at anchor for more than two hours
You must not leave your craft unattended at the anchorage overnight


At least this thread has prompted me to research Falmouth a little bit. There appear to be other places in the immediate vicinity where one can restock or shelter without actually going to "Falmouth" so all is not entirely lost.

Come to Scotland - drop your hook for free - no charges for anchoring anywhere. On second thoughts, just stay down in Englistan - we are becoming too crowded up here now, I mean last time I went out for the day I must have seen 2, no 3 other boats the whole day, and one of those was a cal-mac ferry.
