Following a few threads and discussions there does seem to be some interest in getting the annual YBW cruise to Cherbourg re-started. So, let's see how much interest is out there.
For those that haven't had the opportunity to take part, (the last one being pre-covid and pre-brexit), this was an opportunity for both seasoned cross Channel sailors and those who'd like to sail across for the first time to stretch their legs with a sociable gathering in Cherbourg.
I do have some sad news to share. I read online Fergus who was one of the main "organisers" and encouraged me and others to take part died last year. Being a fluent French speaker and seasoned and a highly experienced and knowledgeable sailor and an all round good bloke, his help will be greatly missed.
Roger (Sailfree) I believe is very much still around and living in Portugal was also driving force for this yearly event.
Past Scuttlebutts have taken place in September and timed to coincide with Neap Tides to aid in passage planning and flatter seas.
Who's in?

Too far for a Corribee but I'll crew if anyone will take me. Did one before the kids were born and really enjoyed it.

Ooh yes, sounds good, the Scuttlebutt Cherbourg cruise was something of a unique experience. The one that always stands out was where we stability tested Stingo’s Beneteau prior to his solo Transat. Anyway, yes, I’d certainly be up for it so long as someone else does the organising!

A long way in the future for firm plans, but we’d like to do it, assuming it doesn’t clash too badly with the racing calendar.
As your boat is faster than an Anderson 22, won't you have time to sail to Cherbourg, nip back to do the race and still be back in Cherbourg for supper?

Many things are faster than our Konsort :). Just gooogled UK daylight hours 2025 for curiousity. 9th September 13hours, 25 September 12 hours. Will stock up on carrots.

In the past the September weather did put a spanner in the works. It was suggested in the past if we should move to a more midsummer date with the advantage of longer daylight hours. Any thoughts on this?

Count me in as per our recent discussion on the matter.

We also need as before someone to run up a secure password protected database where skippers can add their boat names, phone numbers, day of departure, spare places etc. so people can link up to go in company (especially those going for the first time)

You have demonstrated you don't understand the laws of physics. Back to school. The speed of speed of an Anderson 22 is an axiomatic constant: A22 = 1 / √(ε₀μ₀)
