Hi all, trying to get all my ducks into a row before committing to buying my next boat and I’d be interested in any suggestions for the cheapest yard to store a 30 foot bilge keeler within about 30 miles of Bournemouth? It’s essential there’s access to a crane or whatever for lifting the boat off road transport and also there has to be power & water. I‘ll need storage from asap until the Spring whilst working on the boat.

Difficult to beat Davis's Boatyard in Cobbs Quay Poole for convenience, resources and cost. Tariffs - Davis's Boatyard Was customer on and off for over 30 years and did 2 major refits there. Normally they offer10% off for winter storage for payment upfront so well under £1k for your period. Plus cranage and modest cradle hire for the period. Ridge Wharf Wareham is usually a bit cheaper and OK if you live west but a PITA for access by road, even in the winter at commuting times.

I actually did contact Davis’s but they replied they didn’t accept doer uppers into their yard any longer as they’ve been stung so often in the past with customers walking away leaving the expense of disposing of 30 feet of valueless fibreglass to the yard. They were very friendly and helpful, not rude.

No, my garden is too small to store an inflated LILO - and that’s before considering my wife’s objections.

However, the better news is, the boat I originally wanted to buy, which only requires minor tidying and has a recent (5 year old) new Volvo, is now a possibility again. It comes with it’s own mooring too. So I’m not buying the boat that was the subject of this post. But thanks for your suggestions.

If you are looking for somewhere to overwinter a bilge Keeler Newport Quay used to be very cheap .don’t know if they still have the annual lift out there every year though.

It was, last year but now there is a bat flu centre so maybe not, nobody knows. Across the water there is Odessa Marine, cranecup to 4 tons, a small friendly boat yard. Which I recommend as a customer.
Having lived here in Newport for a bit, I would have qualms about security on the Town Quay, it is/was a prime drug dealing venue, at least until the plague.
